Top Ten RomanticComedies

Posted on January 19, 2015 by Feiyon

Today I wanted to try and get away from the yuri streak that I’ve been posting, so I made my top ten romantic comedies list. Keep in mind that when making this list I was aiming for a specific genre. I narrowed down the list to anime that have a main couple that is aiming to get together with comedy added into this process. I got rid of any anime that seemed like a harem or didn’t focus on comedy. So anime like Shakugan no Shana were cut because it focuses more on action. Also, Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club was removed because it focuses more on many characters and not really the romance between the two main characters.

A few anime that didn’t make the list (in no specific order):

  • Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride)
  • Kimi ni Todoke
  • Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl and the Black Prince)
  • Inu x Boku SS
  • Nogizaka Haruka
  • Sukitte li na yo (Say “I love you”)
  • Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)

Without further to do, here are my top ten romantic comedies.

On the left is Yuu and Miki is on the right

10.

Anime:Marmalade Boy

Episode Count:76 Episodes + 1 Movie

Description:The story focuses on a normal high school girl named Miki Koishikawa. One day her parents break the news to her that they are getting a divorce because they both fell in love with someone else. Miki is upset by the news, but then learns that her parents will still be living together. Apparently, Miki’s parents fell in love with another couple, so the two families decide to switch spouses. The other couple also are parents, and all four adults believe it is best for the two families to just merge under one roof. Miki becomes confused and upset by this news, but eventually agrees to the idea after meeting her new handsome step-brother, Yuu Matsuura. The two eventual discover their mutural feelings for each other, but to get to that point they must face a lot of trouble.

Where you can watch it:anime.place (It does have an English Dub)

My Opinion:

I really enjoyed this anime for the humor and drama. It was hard watching the two characters jump through hoops to finally get together. Even together, they had struggles. I liked the comedy in the anime because it was a lot of teasing and joking around. It did slow down a bit in the middle of the series, but I did enjoy this anime a lot overall.

The comedic duo. Ootani on the left and Risa on the right.

9.

Anime:Lovely Complex

Episode Count:24

Description:The two main characters, Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Ootani, are both a little different than normal high school students. Risa is abnormally large for a girl and Atsushi is abnormally short for a boy. These two characters constantly bicker causing the teachers at the school to refer to them as a comedy duo. Eventually these two becoming closer through different events that happen in each others lives. They start to go to each other for support, and they eventually fall in love.

Where you can watch it: Anime1.com (There is an English Dub)

My Opinion:

I really enjoyed this series because of the comedy duo. These two characters play off each other really well, but they also realize when they can’t joke around. It was fun to watch as these two characters grew from a comic duo to lovers. The struggles they had to face are normal for high school students. Many people tired to get in between these two, but they always seemed to pull through. It was a cute anime, and I enjoyed watching it.

On the left is Ushio and Sumika is on the right

8.

Anime:Sasameki Koto

Episode Count:13

Description:Sumika Murasame and Ushio Kazama have been friends for a long period of time. Sumika is popular in high school forher amazing academic and sport skills. Ushio is a cute girl who seems to constantly fall in love with other cute girls, however Ushio is often rejected by all her crushes. Sumika might be Ushio’s best friend, but she has one major secret that she must hide from Ushio. Sumika has fallen deeply in love with Ushio, but Ushio will never look her way. Sumika is crushed by the fact that she isn’t small and cute, which are the two criteria that Ushio seems to look for when she falls in love. Will Ushio ever figure out Sumika’s feelings and will Sumika ever become cute enough to capture Ushio’s attention?

Where you can watch it:Anime1

My Opinion:

I had to at least fit one amazing yuri anime into the list, and Sasameki Koto happened to get into my top ten. I love the story between these two. Sumika struggles so hard to become cute to get Ushio’s attention. She often has a hard time breaking character to become cute. She is also a bit awkward which makes all the situations funnier. The story between these two characters takes its sweet time, but comedy between these two keep you watching and waiting for their feelings to finally collide. I will admit the anime ends a bit awkwardly, but the manga continues. The best part of the anime is at the beginning Sumika seems to try hard to hide her feels while in the end she becomes more and more open to pursuing Ushio.

On the left is Kinjirou and Subaru is on the right

7.

Anime:Mayo Chiki

Episode Count:13

Description:The anime focuses on the main character Kinjirou Sakamachi who has gynophobia, or the fear of women.Because as a child he was often the sparring partner for his mother and sister, who love to wrestle, he automatically gets a nose bleed when touched by a girl. One day Kinjirou finds out that thedaughter of the principle’sbutler, Subaru Konoe, is actually a female. He then has to help keep this secret from getting out because Subaru has to stop becoming a butler if her secret is discovered. The priniciple’s daughter, Kanade Suzutsuki also finds out about Kinjirou’s gynophobia and offers to help him get over it in return for keeping his mouth shut. Kanade does this by constantly teasing Kinjirou either using her own body or using Subaru. Kinjirou’s school life becomes significantly more difficult because he surrounded by more females, and he has to keep a major secret to protect his new friend.

Where you can watch it:Hulu (This has an English Dub)

My Opinion:

I loved this anime when I first watched it. I will admit this anime is pushing my no harem limit I had made when deciding on anime for this list. Although there are many girls, the main character only really likes the one specifically. The anime has many comedic scene where Kinjirou’s gynophobia is tested. Also the scared of Subaru’s secret getting out makes the anime even more comedic and entertaining.

Yamada is in the center and Takashi is the only boy.

6.

Anime:B Gata H Kei

Episode Count:12

Description:Yamada is a gorgeous girl who can get almost any boy that she wants. As she is entering her first year of high school, she sets a goal for herself to have casual sex with 100 men. The only problem Yamada faces is she feels her vagina looks weird. This causes her to aggressively turn down any man she believes has sexual experience because she is scared he might tease her. To fix this problem, Yamada decides that she will aim for losing her virginity with another virgin, therefore he would not be able to tease her about her vagina. Yamada soon after happens to meet an innocent looking boy,Takashi Kosuda, while shopping at a local book store. She begins to target him, so she can begin her journey of having 100 sex friends. Little does she realize that there are more steps to having sex with someone than she expected, and her lack of knowledge in the art of seduction and sex make it harder for her to lose her virginity.

Where you can watch it:Netflix (There is an English Dub)

My Opinion:

I loved the concept of this anime. The main character is a girl who wants to have 100 sex friends, but doesn’t know the first thing about sex. It is fun to watch Yamada struggle as she tries to seduce Takashi. It is also cute to watch as Yamada slowly becomes more and more attached to Takashi throughout this process. The anime in general is very funny and enjoyable, but it is also ecchi. Beware if you don’t like ecchi anime.

Sana is hitting Akito with a hammer

5.

Anime:Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha)

Episode Count:102

Description:The anime focuses on the child actor Sana Kurata. Sana’s mother, Misako Kurata, is a famous writer. Sana’s only problem seems to be with the trouble-maker Akito Hayama. Akito seems to lead a group of boys in disrupting the class. Sana is determined to help Akito, so he will stop disturbing the class, but Akito’s problems are a lot deeper than Sana had originally thought.

Where you can watch it:animeskull (I don’t know how safe this site is though. There are heavy copy-rights on this series.)

My Opinion:

This was one of the first anime I have seen. It was great when I started it because it had lots of comedy and the characters were cute. Eventually there was a lot more drama and the you got the know the characters more. The character growth in the anime is amazing, and I loved every episode of this anime. It was hard to accept some of the plot because it made you angry, but all the pain was worth it in the end.

From left to right (Ryuuji Takasu, Ami Kawashima,Yuusaka Kitamura, Minori Kushieda, Taiga Aisaka)

4.

Anime:Toradora

Episode Count:25 + 1 OVA + Specials

Description:Ryuuji Takasu has always had trouble with people thinking he is a delinquent because of his eyes. This doesn’t stop as he enters his second year of high school. Taiga Aisaka is a short girl with an aggressive temper which caused other students to nickname her the palm-top tiger. Taiga and Ryuuji’s lives become intertwined when Taiga accidently gives Ryuuji a love letter meant for Ryuuji’s best friend Yuusaku Kitamura. Taiga soon realizes that Ryuuji has a crush on her own best friend, Minori Kushieda. The two make an agreement to try and help the other become closer with each other’s best friend. This however proves to be tougher than Taiga and Ryuuji thought.

Where you can watch it:Crunchyroll (But you need a membership), Hulu

My Opinion:

This is one of my favorite romantic comedies. All of the characters are amazing and there is plenty of comedy going around. It is amazing how the strangest characters are actually know the most about what is going on. There are lots of lines in the anime that have deeper meaning than it originally sounds. The characters all have to face the challenges of high school together, but they all become stronger by facing the challenges head on.

Nozaki is on the left and Chiyo is on the right

3.

Anime:Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Episode Count:12

Description:Chiyo Sakura has a deep crush on her classmate Umetarou Nozaki. However when she confesses her feelings for him, Nozaki misunderstands and thinks Chiyo is a fan of his popular shoujo manga. Because Sakura has some art talent, Nozaki recruits Chiyo to help him with his monthly mangas. Although Chiyo is happy to be able to get closer to Nozaki through his manga, she still aims to confess her feelings for Nozaki in a way he will understand.

Where you can watch it:Crunchyroll

My Opinion:

Although this anime just came out in 2014, it quickly became one of my favorite anime. The comedy in this anime is like no other. There are many moments that you believe the stereotypical situation will happen, and the anime takes an abrupt left turn. The comedy between all the characters is fresh and new and always keeps you entertained. The romance in this anime lacks a bit, but it is definitely a fresh new type of romantic comedy.

From left to right. (Megumi Yamamoto, Hikari Hanazono, Akira Toudou, Tadashi Karino, Kei Takishima, Jun Yamamoto, Ryuu Tsuji)

2.

Anime:Special A

Episode Count:24

Description:Hikari Hanazono has always been a hard worker. Since she was small, her father taught her professional wrestling moves. She became slightly cocky because she didn’t lose fights, until she met Kei Takishima, the heir to the Takishima company. Kei was the first person Hikari ever lost to, and she is unable to beat him in any event. Hikari often challenges Kei in contests of skill to finally beat her rival. Because Hikari only sees Kei as a rival, she is oblivious of Kei’s feelings towards her. Will Hikari ever discover Kei’s feelings, or will Kei just be her ultimate rival?

Where you can watch it: Anime1 (There is an English Dub)

My Opinion:

This anime has always been one of my favorite. I love all the characters in this series, especially Hikari and Kei. It is amusing how Kei tries so hard to get Hikari to realize his feeling, and he just continues to get shot down by her denseness. Eventually Kei accepts that Hikari won’t understand his feelings, but he is also constantly surprised by Hikari too. The anime has a great mix of romance and comedy, but it mostly focuses on comedy more than romance.

Misaki is on the left and Usui is on the right

1.

Anime:Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! (Class President is a Maid!)

Episode Count:26

Description:Misaki Ayuzawa is the the student counil president of her high school. Because the school used to be an all boy’s school, the population of girls compared to boys is significantly lower. This causes the boys to act rowdy and somewhat scare the female population. Misaki makes it her job to be super strict towards the males to try and control their behavior. Misaki is stuck going to that high school because of her families finacial situation. The school is inexpensive to attend, so Misaki doesn’t have the luxury of changing schools causing her to want improve the school. To help her family finacially, Misaki gets a job as a maid in the next town over. Misaki keeps this a secret from her school friends because she feels she would lose the respect she has gained over time if people found out she was working as a maid. However, one day, the most popular boy in school, Takumi Usui, find out about Misaki’s secret and will only keep it if she agrees to hang out with him.

Where you can watch it:Youtube (There is an English Dub)

My Opinion:

This is my favorite romantic comedy because there is a good balance between romance and comedy within this manga. It has many funny scenes and moments, but it also is good at creating a romantic atmosphere between the two main characters. Also, the two main characters are perfect for each other. Usui is great at calming down Misaki when she tends to over react. These two strong main characters add great comedy to this anime and are one of the most adorable anime couples of all time.

Top 10 Anime of the Fall Simulcast2014

Posted on January 5, 2015 by WittyAnimeViewers

Because of the ending of the Fall Simulcast of 2014, I wanted to post my opinion of the last simulcast season. Here are my top ten 12-13 episode anime that came out in the last season. I also personally liked this season. I thought a lot of anime that started was great. I am glad that winter break has given me time to enjoy all of the anime I wanted to see and gave me a break from all the school work that gets in the way of anime time.

To look at all the anime that was available this past season go to anichart.net/fall

10.

Anime: Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai (The Shepherd of the Great Library)

GeList – Witty Anime Viewers (26)nre: Romance, School

Description: The anime focuses on a literacy club that has only one member, Kyoutarou Kakei. He enjoys reading novels and keeping to himself. One day he saves a girl at his school, Tsugumi Shirasaki. She is trying to create a club to make everyone happy, and she eventually drags Kakei into this plan. While all this is happening, someone called the “Shepard” continues to contact the group and keep everyone on their toes.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Funimation

My opinion: Personally, I believe that this anime had a rough start. I didn’t like the first few episodes, but once the plot seemed to be more in place the anime’s flow got better. The concepts of the “Shepherds” was interesting, and I would have liked to see more, I guess, about the shepherds. The harem aspect was a bit strange too. It was an okay anime in general, but it definitelydidn’t stand out this season compared to the other anime that came out.

9.

Anime: Girlfriend (Beta)

Genre: Slice of life, School

Description: This anime is based off a visual novel where a player gets to choose a girlfriend from a List – Witty Anime Viewers (27)multitude of girls. The anime focuses on many girls thatare all part of different clubs and activities, but the girls seems to be connected in different ways. An example would be like the star rhythmic gymnastics girl, Kokomi Shiina, getting photos taken by her friend, Erena Mochizuki, or has an interview with the radio club’s broadcaster, Akane Sakurai. There are different problems in every episode, but every episode is fun and shows off different girls in the cast.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My opinion: I wasn’t sure about what to expect with this anime. Reading the description didn’t help at all. The show ended up being about a bunch of girls in a school and how they hung out with each other. I enjoy anime about girl’s hanging out and having fun, but the anime didn’t stand out. I was impressed that even though the show had an abundance of characters, I was able to remember who was who. They do constantly remind you though. Each episode seemed to have it’s own problems, and it was fun learning about different characters in the series. Though, I am a bit upset that I didn’t get to see more rhythmic gymnastics.

8.

Anime: Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete (In Search of the Lost Future)

Genre: Romance, Harem, Supernatural, School

Description: The story focuses on an astronomy club that’s activities are not contained only to the stars. It kind of follows the clubs drive to make a planetarium for the culture festival. While the club is working the planetarium, a mysterious girl appears and changes the fate of all the members of the club.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Funimation

My opinion: I wasn’t expecting this anime to do as well as I thought it did in the end. The first episode had me on the end of my seat. SPOILER (Highlight text to see): Starts [ I was refreshing to watch an anime where in the first episode the childhood friend confessed her feelings for the main guy characters. It was really upsetting when she died at the end of the episode.] End. The anime itself was interesting, but it did not have a lot about astronomy which was sad. I thought the ending was interesting and acceptable. It tested my patience though because the first few episodes keep you wondering about what is really happening, but the anime itself was good at revealing the secrets it keep in prior episodes.

Anime: Trinity Seven

Genre: Action, Harem, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Magic, Romance

Description: The main character, Arata Kasuga, life is being destroyed by an incident known as “Collapse Phenomenon”. During this time, his cousin and love interest, Hijiri Kasuga, disappearsbefore his very eyes. To stop the “Collapse Phenomenon” and save his cousin, Arata enrolls in the Royal Biblia Academy. In this academy, he learns how to use magic and meets the seven powerful magic users known as the trinity seven.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My Opinion: This anime was exciting and fun. It is defiantly pretty heavy on the ecchi, so if you don’t like that genre beware. Personally the harem aspect was little much for me. I love a good harem, but it something about this one seemed a bit off. The anime itself was great. The characters play off each other well. The magic powers were interesting too. There is probably going to be a second season, so don’t expect a nice clean ending for this one.

6.

Anime:Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji (Wolf Girl and Black Prince)

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Shoujo

Description: Erika Shinohara is a sixteen year old high school girl who ends up in a class without any of her friends. When she finally makes some friends, they both enjoy talking about their boyfriends. This provokes Erika to create a fake boyfriend to feel more connected with her friends and not seem uncool. Eventually, Erika’s friends wish to see her boyfriend causing Erika to take List – Witty Anime Viewers (30)a photo of an attractive stranger to show her friends. Not realizing this boy was the “prince” of her high school, Erika has to make a deal with the boy to become her fake boyfriend. Little does she know that in the process she has to bargain her sanity to keep up her lie and to please her fake boyfriend.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My Opinion: This anime was a nice little romantic comedy. It is not up to par with Kaichou wa Maid-sama or Kimi ni Todoke, but it was a fun anime to watch. I enjoyed the comedy of the characters and how they all were able to figure themselves out. I feel for a twelve episode anime it lacked a bit in the arc length. Each problem seemed to be fixed in an episode or two and the main characters didn’t take long to fall in love. Although I found a few problems with this anime, I enjoyed it a lot in the long run and hope for more little romcoms like this to appear in the future.

5.

Anime: Selector Spread WIXOSS

Genre: Game, Psychological

Description: This is the second season of Selector Infected WIXOSS. The anime follows the last season with more action filled card battles and charactersdevelopment.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Funimation

My Opinion: This was a nice ending to the first season of WIXOSS. I personally was a little dissapointed the opening of the anime. It didn’t have quite the same feeling as the first season. I feel all the characters were able to grow and the ending was nice. I defiantly suggest this show to anyone who likes the psychological problems in Madoka Magica and enjoy the battles of Yu-Gi-Oh.

4.

Anime: Sora no Method (Celestial Method)

Genre: Drama, Fantasy, School, Slice of Life

Description: The story focuses on Nonoka Komiya, a middleschool girl, who has returned to the town she formerly lived in seven years ago. Within this town is a lake and for the past seven years there has been a saucer above the lake. Nonoka must discover the mystery behind the saucer by first remembering the her past and getting help from her old friends.

Episode Amount: 13

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My Opinion: This anime caught my attention at the beginning and kept it the whole time. It had interesting humor, but also good drama. It really reminds you the importance of friendship. I was a little worried near the end of the series about how the anime would end, but it had nice wrap up. The only part that bothered me was the art at the very end of the anime. I don’t understand why they changed it so drastically and made it the last thing the viewers saw before the anime concluded.

3.

Anime: Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru (Yuki Yuna is a Hero)

Genre: Slice of Life, Fantasy, Action, School, Psychological

Description: The story takes place in the future and follows a middle school hero club. The club focuses on helping others but also has another activity. Yuuki Yuuna and her friends acquire powers to fight the “Vertex” that threaten to destroy the world. Will the hero club be able to become the heros they wish to be, or will the city fall?

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My Opinion: I was excited for this anime. Who doesn’t a good hero show. It was a bit darker than I had expected, but it came back around in the end. It definitelydrew out my emotions for the characters. I never expected to care so much for every character in this anime. It was probably the most yuri-ish anime I saw this season, which isn’t saying much. I would suggest this show if you like action and psychological moe anime.

2.

Anime: Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de (When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace)

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, School, Shounen, Supernatural, Romance, Harem

Description: The five members of a literacy club suddenly discover that they have super powers. Unlike usual, no organization or power hungry villain appear for the characters to fight. The anime follows the characters everyday life as they continue their normal routines but with super powers to add more fun into their lives.

Episode Amount: 12

Where you can watch it: Crunchyroll

My Opinion: I was surprised how much I enjoyed this show. It was different than most superpower shows that I’ve seen. I often forgot about the superpowers, which I would have liked to see more of, but I still liked this anime a lot. Each of the powers are pretty amazing, but it is also fun to see the main character usehis actions and words to his advantage more than his superpower. The ending was interesting. I thought it was weird how they made it an obvious harem at the end and added the “kinda” explanation for the superpowers, but didn’t explain why the main cast got their super powers. They also prepped for a season two, so I can hope that this anime goes well and gets a second season. This anime had my favorite opening song for the season too.

1.

Anime: Amagi Brilliant Park

Genre: Comedy, Magic, Romance

Description: Seiya Kanie, once a well known child actor, is one day forced to come to a run down amusment park by the new transfer student, Isuzu Sento. Seiya soon discovers that the cast and crew of the park are all magical beings that depend on the parks success to continue living. The park is being threatened to close down in three months if it can’t reach its goal of 500,000 guestsin a year. The park has had about 250,000 visitors, but at the rate of visitors coming the park will be closed, so the princess of the magical beings entrusts the park’s future in Seiya’s hands. Will he be able to save the park or will he fail?

Episode Amount: 13

Where you can watch it: Anime1.com

My Opinion: This anime was my favorite for this season. I really enjoyed all the comedy and the characters in this anime. The plot set right the beginning and remained constant throughout the anime. I liked the way each problem was solved, and it was just a fun anime in general. The only disappointment was the last episode seemed more like an OVA then part of the series, especially since the series had practically ended on episode twelve. My hopes are high that this anime might get a second season because not all the problems were solved, so I’m going to keep my fingers crossed.
